Share Multiple Apps in a Slack Huddle on Mac

Start with Slack’s native window sharing. For a Mac walkthrough across several work apps, share a filtered Audience View and keep private apps outside it.

Short answer

In a Slack huddle, share a specific window for a single-app task. For a Mac walkthrough across approved apps, share ScreenK9 — Audience View as one window. Slack’s two-person screen sharing is a separate feature.

Slack’s official April 2026 introduction shows huddles and collaboration on shared screens. The source-selection guidance below was checked against Slack Help Center on September 12, 2026. Watch on YouTube.

Start with Slack’s native window sharing

Open the document you want to explain before starting a share. In the huddle controls, select the screen-sharing icon, choose the intended window, and start sharing. Check the preview carefully when several windows have similar names.

The current Slack huddles guide lists screen, window, and application sources. It also provides a separate system-audio choice. Use the smallest source that covers the task; a full desktop adds background content to your review burden.

For a fixed set, inspect the options your installed Slack and macOS picker actually offer. If native selection covers everything you need, test that selection and keep it. Do not assume that a shortcut from another meeting application works in Slack.

Ask a colleague to confirm the received picture before presenting. Open any menu or dialog required by your explanation during that check. The window you selected and the content a viewer receives are worth verifying separately.

Distinguish three meanings of “multiple screens”

Several people sharing, several Slack conversations, and several apps on your Mac are different jobs. Choosing the right one often removes the need for a workaround.

Slack allows two people to share at the same time. That describes two presenters; it does not establish that one person's stream automatically combines every app they open.

Slack split view puts two conversations or files beside each other. If the entire explanation lives in Slack, prepare that layout first and use an appropriate native source. Check that both panes contain material intended for your audience.

Slack Help Center explaining that split view displays two conversations or files side by side

Slack Help Center, captured September 12, 2026. Split view organizes content inside Slack; it is a different task from presenting a browser, editor, and terminal together.

Slack also documents opening separate conversation windows. More local windows do not, by themselves, create a private presentation surface. Avoid opening a confidential DM next to the channel you intend to explain.

Use Audience View for a changing work-app walkthrough

Consider a support huddle that starts in a browser dashboard, moves to a configuration file, and ends at a terminal. Personal messages still need to remain open on the presenter's Mac. This is the case where selecting a short list of approved apps can be useful.

ScreenK9 creates an ordinary macOS window containing filtered capture from a selected display. Slack can share that window as the source. ScreenK9 does not modify Slack, intercept huddle traffic, or create a remote-control workspace.

Prepare the walkthrough before inviting your audience:

  1. Put the required work apps on the display you will capture. Use demo accounts and non-sensitive files inside them.
  2. Create an Allow only profile in ScreenK9 and approve the required applications.
  3. If Chrome is involved, classify the intended profiles as Work with the companion extension. Prepare the Chrome profile boundary before the call.
  4. Choose your system-surface visibility settings and start capture.
  5. Inspect ScreenK9 — Audience View while following the complete sequence, including app switches and dialogs.
  6. In Slack, select that exact audience window and verify it with a test viewer.

The general multi-app sharing guide helps decide whether a native source is already sufficient. Add ScreenK9 when repeated app selection solves a real presentation problem, rather than adding another capture stage to a one-window conversation.

Approving an app also requires preparing its contents

Ordinary ScreenK9 rules operate at application level. If you approve an editor, another private project window in that editor is not independently excluded. Likewise, approving a terminal does not conceal credentials printed inside it.

Keep private documents out of approved applications. A useful rehearsal includes opening a second document in an approved app, because that exposes the difference between application selection and individual-window selection immediately.

Chrome has a separate local classification mechanism. Personal, unclassified, stale, or ambiguous matches are hidden. Title matching is not cryptographic identity, so uncertainty results in exclusion rather than a promise that every title securely identifies a profile.

User-configured redaction regions cover fixed areas of the audience output. They do not read text with OCR, discover secrets automatically, or follow a moving account name. Recheck them after moving or resizing content.

If you select the physical display in Slack, you bypass Audience View. Keep the share source explicit whenever you stop and restart the huddle presentation.

Keep audio and permission problems separate

ScreenK9 does not capture or route audio. Choose your microphone and any system sound in Slack, then listen during the test. A messaging app hidden from the picture can still make an audible interruption. The Mac notification preparation guide covers native controls for that part of the setup.

If a window is unavailable or the received picture is blank, follow Slack’s audio and video troubleshooting. On the Mac, Apple’s recording permissions control which apps can capture the screen and system audio. Check Slack, or the browser you use for Slack, and ScreenK9 when it provides the source.

Slack documents a specific screen-sharing problem after switching Mac app distributions. Use the matching native diagnosis if it applies. Audience View is not a general repair for capture permissions, network quality, or a broken Slack installation.

Run a short receiver-side rehearsal

Before a customer or team joins, verify the sequence that could expose the wrong content:

  • Start with the correct audience window selected in Slack.
  • Move between every approved app and open the expected dialogs.
  • Bring a private app forward and confirm that it remains outside the received picture.
  • Check another window inside an approved ordinary app.
  • Listen for notification sounds and verify the microphone.
  • Stop sharing, restart it, and confirm the source again.

Use ScreenK9’s download page for current Mac availability and requirements. Keep the walkthrough limited to prepared content, and judge the result from the picture your colleague actually receives.
